Eight Below
-
Will it give more trouble for Siberian Husky Rescue?
The
Siberian Husky movie “Eight
Below” is based on the true story in 1957 about the Japanese expedition
to the South Pole. The original one was a Japanese movie called
‘Antarctica
(1983)’ which was directed by Koreyoshi Kurahara. The story of
Antarctica was about the bond between the two
Japanese scientists and their sled dog team
with 12 Siberian Huskies. In the expedition, the scientists had no
choice but to abandon their sled dog team and leave them to survive for
themselves. After few months, the expedition team returned to
search their sled dogs, however there was only 2 Siberian
Huskies survived finally ........
It is almost expected
that the movie Eight Below will set off the demand for the public owning
their own Siberian Huskies and it will also increase the demand for
Siberian Huskies at the pet shops and backyard breeders directly! Both
movies, Eight Below and Antarctica attempt to portray the Siberian
Huskies as heroes. However, please think, do the movies show us the
truth side of Siberian husky? Do they tell us that Siberian Husky will
dig, run away, destroy your shoes and furniture and they are also escape
artists? Please do not forget the “Snow Dog’s Effect”! The rescues
and pounds
received HUGE pressure for receiving a great number of phone calls
for wanting to place their Siberian huskies in the new homes at
that time. Now, the rescues and pounds will have to face the same problem again in
the next 2 years.
Our breed requires
a lot of protection and
"SIBERIAN
HUSKY IS CERTAINLY NOT A BREED FOR EVERYONE".
We really hope that each pet owner does their research about Siberian
Huskies’ behaviour, characters, temperament and history before you buy
your first Siberian Husky.
Yes, in the movies,
Siberian Huskies are portrayed as heroes, but please THINK TWICE before
you make a decision to get a
pet from this breed and remember,
this is a
LONG TERM COMMITMENT.
